Six year old Dylan, from Glasgow, has written a #1 amazon best selling children's poem explaining dementia from a child's perspective.
Homeschooling during lockdown, Dylan's mum Gillian was looking for ways to liven up schoolwork and suggested he penned a rhyming poem expressing how he felt about his Granny. Granny, Helen, was diagnosed with dementia six years ago and has been in Thornwood Hall Care Home in Shawlands for five years.
Gillian says "As someone who has worked in dementia care homes, even I struggled to explain what it was to him. For this, I apologised, but Dylan’s response was ‘Dementia makes granny’s brain a bit messy’. It was at this point I thought who better to teach a child about Dementia, than another child."
Titled "Granny in the Big House", Dylans illustrated poem was originally published on on Amazon Kindle, and became #1 Best Selling Children's School and Education eBooks. It is now also available to purchase by donating to his just giving page, with proceeds supporting Alzheimer Scotland.
