Summer holiday season is in full swing. If you are going on holiday, here are a few tips to consider when travelling with someone who has dementia.
- Make sure the person has a list of emergency contact numbers that they can keep with them. This could include your telephone number and other emergency details.
- Having a list of medications, dosage and schedule is also a great idea. It's best to keep any medication in your hand luggage in case you get separated from your hold luggage if travelling by plane.
- A Dementia Helpcard can help the person with dementia communicate their needs with staff or officials during their holiday. You can call our 24 hour Freephone Dementia Helpline on 0808 808 3000 to order a free Helpcard.
- Wearing a lanyard with important information, such as emergency contacts and medical conditions can also help others know that the person may need extra support when travelling.
- Take advantage of travel assistance services. They can provide support through security or guide you through the entire airport or train station journey.
